About Us
Welcome to Mendota Elementary!
One of the first community schools in MMSD, Mendota Elementary is a 4K through 5th grade school with a diverse student body. Our 340 Scholars come from a variety of neighborhoods, with the majority living within walking distance of the school. As a community school we build on the assets of the community to help serve the identified needs of scholars, families and community through well integrated and coordinated, strategic partnerships. In partnership with our families and community, our goal is to create a culture of college, career and community readiness for all!
Mendota Elementary School is located one block off Northport Drive and near Lake Mendota and Warner Park on the northeast side of Madison. Mendota is a neighborhood school representing a broad range of social, economic, cultural and racial diversity. Stable families, diversity, three neighborhood centers with excellent after school activities and a growing northeast business community are key reasons why the Mendota area is a great place to raise a family.
Mendota’s Vision and Equity Statement
Our school supports MMSD’s vision that all students acquire the skills and abilities needed to be successful, including a mastery of content areas, growth mindset, self-knowledge, creativity, wellness, interpersonal skills, confidence, cultural competence, and community connection. Through these skills and abilities, our students will graduate college, career, and community ready. We believe that as anti-racist educators, we will provide all students with an equitable and liberating education, while privileging Black Excellence, as public education is a vehicle for social justice
NEIGHBORHOOD BUS SERVICE
Although most students are within walking distance to Mendota, three school buses serve students in the morning and afternoon. Special buses are available for students with disabilities.
COMMUNITY BREAKFAST, HOT LUNCH AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Mendota offers both a breakfast and a hot lunch program. The daily community breakfast program includes all students and staff. A nationally recognized after school program, Safe Haven and AACE (After-school Academic Clubs for Excellence), administered by MSCR serves over 100 students beyond the school day, including an all-day summer camp. "Kids Days Out" are scheduled during school breaks providing all-day care.
